Sanitation
Sanitation Services Include:
*Property owners must submit waiver forms to the BID's office to have graffiti removed from their buildings. We are very proud of our workers who can be easily identified by their vibrant blue jump suits with the BID's logo on the back. Our crew members service approximately 40 trash cans daily and work very closely with the Department of Sanitation's 12th district who removes trash from Sutphin Boulevard seven days a week. Our workers are bi-lingual and are often stopped by pedestrians who require directions and information. Their presence provides additional security to the district making visitors and businesses feel safe. Graffiti Removal Programs
Beautification Sutphin Boulevard saw a major streetscape improvement after the BID was established in 2004. Through the BID's beautification initiative we have installed banners, tree plantings, information kiosks, historical markers, tree grates with granite blocks and holiday lights - resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing commercial corridor. Last year, the BID received positive feedback from its members regarding the holiday lights display. The BID is pleased to know that they are impacting the community in such a positive way. Security
Marketing/Promotion In addition to the beautification and safety of the Sutphin Boulevard BID's Corridor, the BID's goal is to assist businesses within the District by promoting the area. The BID actively promotes the District via direct mailings, print advertising, local news media, and public relations outreach. Banner Program

Since the BID's inception, keeping Sutphin Boulevard clean has been the BID's top priority. Contracted with Academic Stone Incorporated, the BID's sanitation team collected 30,000 pounds of garbage from the district last year filling 52,000 garbage bags a year and 1,000 garbage bags a week. The BID's sanitation workforce includes three individuals during Eastern Daylight Savings Time and two individuals during Eastern Standard Time. Services are delivered continually throughout the day, seven days a week. Crew members work Monday-Saturday 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
In addition to keeping the streets clean, the BID is working diligently to keep the corridor graffiti free. This year, the BID upgraded its sanitation contract to include removing unsightly graffiti from all buildings, public and private fixtures/structures and security gates at no charge to the building and property owners. Property owners must submit waiver forms to the BID's office to have graffiti removed from their buildings. The BID is also working in conjunction with the "Graffiti-Free NYC" program through the Mayor's Office. This year alone, the BID has already removed graffiti from 20 locations within the commercial corridor.

As the BID creates a brand identity for the area our banner program, just one aspect of our marketing strategy, encourages business activity within the District. The fifteen two-sided metal banners that are placed throughout the district help to create a sense of "place" for the corridor. The banners read "SUTPHIN BLVD" and display a courthouse icon. The metal banners serve as an aid to individuals who are new to the area. In the near future, the BID plans to restore its seasonal banner program. Seasonal banners welcome visitors to shop and enjoy the amenities that Sutphin Boulevard has to offer. In past years our banner program has helped to bring additional resources to the BID by encouraging sponsors to invest in the program. Businesses in the local community who wish to sponsor a banner should contact the BID's office. Sponsors will have their logo printed on a banner that will be displayed throughout the district.
The forth core service provided by the BID is the installation of festive street lighting during the Fall/Winter holiday season. This year the BID displayed its first "Welcome to Sutphin Blvd" sign at the intersection of Hillside Avenue and Sutphin Boulevard. The welcome sign is the introduction to an illuminated corridor. Eight holiday light streamers following a white theme with a snowflake as its centerpiece are placed throughout the district.
