93-43 Sutphin Blvd. – Site 1
A new $35 million hotel is being planned at Jamaica Station. The proposed hotel would be built by Able Hotels, a Long Island-based developer, at 93-43 Sutphin Blvd. directly across the street from the Long Island Rail Road station, the E, F and J subway lines and the Port Authority’s AirTrain to John F. Kennedy International Airport. The 24-story hotel is planned to have approximately 210 rooms, a full service restaurant and ground floor retail space.
Able Hotels CEO Viral Patel said in an earlier press release that “the location is well-suited for a hotel, as it is directly across from and easily accessible to the Jamaica transit systems and guests will be able to utilize the AirTrain to and from JFK Airport.” He looks forward to successful completion of the project and becoming part of the downtown Jamaica business community.
The project is expected to break ground by the end of 2014.
Jamaica Infrastructure Projects:
Exciting public projects are happening on Sutphin Blvd and in the LIRR/AirTrain Station area. The east side of Sutphin Blvd. between Archer Ave. and 94th Ave. recently saw the completion of retail space beneath the underpass. Resorts World Casino has been the first tenant to move in, opening a greeter center for customers waiting to take the shuttle to the Casino. Plans are underway for the extension of Atlantic Avenue which will also create three parks and include roadwork on 94th and 95th Avenues, creating a one-way pair. At the intersection of Sutphin Blvd. and Archer Ave., two plazas are in design for the north side of the street. The existing E/J/Z subway entrances will be relocated into the plazas, along with the widening of the intersection. This should create a safer intersection which boasts some of the highest pedestrian counts in NYC.
