Sutphin Boulevard BID Seeks Executive Director
Job Descriptiom:
The Director of the Sutphin Boulevard BID must be an intelligent, motivated person who is capable of providing leadership in several areas. The candidate must be comfortable and experienced in an administrative role and be an excellent communicator (interpersonal, written, oral). The candidate will oversee the daily operations of the Business Improvement District, which entails contract management and supervision. He or she must be comfortable with financial management skills. The candidate will report to the Board of Directors of the Sutphin Boulevard District Management Association on a regular basis. He or she must be committed to the revitalization of downtown Jamaica and be able to convey that commitment and enthusiasm to BID members, merchants and residents. The BID Director will cooperate with neighboring Jamaica BIDs (Jamaica Center Improvement Association and 165th Street Mall BID), to foster positive, cooperative dynamics among the three downtown BIDs. The candidate must have a working knowledge of New York City government. Above all else, the candidate must be capable of acting effectively as spokesperson and advocate for interests of the BID members, based on guidance provided by the organization.
The BID Director’s daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Building consensus and problem solve among members of the BID.
- Act as an advocate for the BID with relevant City/State/Federal agencies.
- Have an understanding of BID legislation, programs and activities.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with corporate, government, and community organizations and institutions necessary to carry out BID policies and objectives.
- Act as a liaison to press and media contacts.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies that will promote Sutphin Boulevard as a commercial district.
- Supervise all BID staff, contractors and consultants.
- Prepare annual budget and yearly report.
- Fundraise (through grant-writing and networking), in order to support BID objectives not supported (or supported only partially) by BID assessments
- Represent the BID at public meetings, hearings and events.
Educational Requirement:
Minimum - Bachelor Degree, preferably Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Urban Development, Community Organization and Planning in Social Work or relevant field.
