The Sutphin Boulevard Business Improvement District (BID) was founded in 2004 to provide supplemental services to a six block commercial strip running along Sutphin Boulevard in Downtown Jamaica. Managed by the Sutphin Boulevard District Management Association, Inc. (DMA), the BID serves as an information source and a voice for its members, and provides support and access to cost saving programs. This nonprofit DMA gets its primary source of funding from a special tax assessment collected from property owners within District and services its members and the community in four basic ways:
- Sanitation and Maintenance
- Security
- Marketing and Promotion
- Holiday Lighting
