July 2016 – The Sutphin Boulevard Business Improvement District, commonly referred to as the Sutphin Boulevard BID, was the only organization in Queens to be granted the Neighborhood Challenge Grant in January 2015.
Seven building projects on Sutphin Blvd between Hillside and 88th Ave gained $95,000 in city grants from NYC Small Business Services to fix up their facades and improve interior spaces, to provide a more attractive, consistent and welcoming environment for consumers. The BID recommended storefront guidelines to interested business owners that included improving awnings, security gates, signage, lighting and storefront windows.
On July 27, 2016 at 10:00 am at F & S Discount and Variety located at 87-70 Sutphin Blvd. The completed work will be on display to the public. This project is just one phase of the complete revitalization of the storefronts that make up the Boulevard. The Sutphin Blvd BID is now working towards receiving the New York Main Street Grant to continue what the Neighborhood Challenge Grant started.
